SouthWest Care Skills provides expert clinical advice, training and mentoring for Health and Social Care professionals, in the areas of Acute Care and Long-term Care for older people, Dementia Care, Mental Capacity, Clinical Holding, End-of-Life Care and related areas, including Continuing Health Care Assessments and Best Interest Assessments.
Jane Buswell founded SouthWest Care Skills in 2011 after more than 37 years clinical experience in the NHS and independent sector, both in the UK and abroad. This culminated in the position of Consultant Nurse for Older People and Clinical Lead for Dementia Care at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), leading trust wide work on implementing the National Dementia Strategy.
Jane is an independent Nurse Consultant, qualified Best Interest Assessor for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and trained Expert Witness. She is experienced in writing Court Reports, in particular for the Court of Protection. Jane is an expert in the Mental Capacity Act and its implications for Healthcare.
Jane Buswell is currently Chair of the British Geriatrics Society Specialist Nurse and Senior Practitioner group. She is a member of the Alzheimer's Society Specialist Review Panel advising on the content of factsheets and also an Dementia Friend Champion for Dorset and North Somerset. Jane was a Judge for the 'Specialist Dementia Nurse /Dementia Lead' and 'Dementia Personality' categories at the 2013 National Dementia Care Awards, organised by the Journal of Dementia Care. In 2014 she is a judge in the 'Best Dementia Specialist Team' category.
Jane is regular contributor and peer reviewer for professional publications including 'Nursing Older People', and a regular presenter at leading national conferences.
